چکیده

We describe microwave and hard X-ray observations of strong quasiperiodic pulsations from the GOES X1.3 solar flare on 15 June 2003. The radio observations were made jointly by the Owens Valley Solar Array (OVSA), the Nobeyama Polarimeter (NoRP), and the Nobeyama Radioheliograph (NoRH). Hard X-ray observations were made by the Ramaty High Energy Solar Spectroscopic Imager (RHESSI). Using Fourier analysis, we study the frequencyand energy-dependent oscillation periods, differential phase, and modulation amplitudes of the radio and X-ray pulsations. Focusing on the more complete radio observations, we also examine the modulation of the degree of circular polarization and of the radio spectral index. The observed properties of the oscillations are compared with those derived from two simple models for the radio emission. In particular, we explicitly fit the observed modulation amplitude data to the two competing models. The first model considers the effects of MHD oscillations on the radio emission. The second model considers the quasi-periodic injection of fast electrons. We demonstrate that quasiperiodic acceleration and injection of fast electrons is the more likely cause of the quasiperiodic oscillations observed in the radio and hard X-ray emission, which has important implications for particle acceleration and transport in the flaring sources. Solar flare radio pulsations as a signature of dynamic magnetic reconnection

Decimetric radio observations of the impulsive solar flare on October 5, 1992, 09:25 UT show a long series of quasi-periodic pulsations deeply modulating a continuum in the 0.6–2 GHz range that is slowly drifting toward lower frequencies. We propose a model in which the pulsations of the radio flux are caused by quasi-periodic particle acceleration episodes that result from a dynamic phase of m...

Periodic Acceleration of Electrons in the 1998 November 10 Solar Flare

We present an examination of the multi-wavelength observation of a C7.9 flare which occurred on 1998 November 10. This is the first time of imaging observation of the quasi-periodic pulsations (QPPs). Four bursts were observed with the hard X-ray telescope aboard Yohkoh and the Nobeyama Radioheliograph during the impulsive phase of the flare. In the second burst, the hard X-ray and microwave ti...

Issn 1845–8319 Multiperiodicity in Quasi-periodic Pulsations of Flare Hard X-rays: a Case Study

We present a case study of the solar flare (SOL2001-10-02T17:31) that showed quasi-periodic pulsations (QPPs) in hard X-rays with two simultaneously excited periods, P1 = 26 − 31 s and P2 = 110 s. Complete evolution of the flare recorded by the Yohkoh telescopes, together with the patrol SOHO/EIT images, allowed us to identify magnetic structures responsible for particular periods and to propos...

Issn 1845–8319 on the Relation between Decimetric and Hard X-ray Emissions in the Impulsive Flare Phase

The emission of decimetric flare radiation, in particular narrowband spikes and pulsations, is generally considered to originate from accelerated, non-thermal particles. On the other hand, non-thermal hard X-rays (HXR) are well accepted results of such acceleration. Are radio emissions and HXR signatures of the same acceleration process? Good correlation of the light curves in the radio and HXR...

Quasi-periodic modulation of solar and stellar flaring emission by magnetohydrodynamic oscillations in a nearby loop

We propose a new model for quasi-periodic modulation of solar and stellar flaring emission. Fast magnetoacoustic oscillations of a non-flaring loop can interact with a nearby flaring active region. This interaction occurs when part of the oscillation situated outside the loop reaches the regions of steep gradients in magnetic field within an active region and produces periodic variations of ele...
